Raised to lead the Tibetan people, H.H. the Dalai Lama fled Tibet at an early age to escape the Chinese invasion. The Dalai Lama is famous for practicing that most illusive of qualities: being kind to those that prosecute you.
In 2011 he gave up leadership of the Tibetan community in exile to the first elected Tibetan leader ever. The Dalai Lama is now ONLY a spiritual leader, no longer head of state.
